International platform for innovation DEMOLA Latvia will be launched on 31st January, 2014 in Riga

DEMOLA, an innovation platform with Finnish roots, supporting cooperation of students, universities and companies will be launched in Latvia on January 31, 2014. During the opening event students, entrepreneurs and journalists will be introduced with the idea of DEMOLA Latvia and the goals for year 2014. In addition the Cooperation Protocol with software testing competency centre SQUALIO will be signed allowing students to use testing infrastructure for development of complex IT solutions and to receive professional consultations.

The main goal of DEMOLA Latvia is to give a chance to university students to get involved in development of innovative solution of industrial tasks thus the future professionals will acquire practical collaboration experiences in cross-sectoral teams, while companies will gain innovative marketable products and services.

As explained Lilita Sparane, head of DEMOLA Latvia team, the new innovation platform will allow students to understand better their chosen profession and learn how to operate in a multi - disciplinary team; the universities will be able to identify the real market demand and to improve the quality of the studies, but companies - get a new perspective on their services and products.

DEMOLA Latvia has signed the Cooperation Agreements with several universities, associations and partners already: University of Latvia, Riga Technical University, Art Academy of Latvia, Riga Business School, Ventspils University, BA School of Business and Finance, Transport and Telecommunication Institute, Riga Stradins University, University „Turība”, Latvian Electrical Engineering and Electronics Industry Association, Association of Mechanical Engineering and Metalworking Industries of Latvia, Association of Latvian Travel Agents and Operators and NGO „Go Beyond”.

The DEMOLA Latvia opening event will be attended by Ms Ilona Platonova, the Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Economy of Latvian, Mr Andris Ozols, Director of the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia, Mr Erik Bunis (Sweden) representative of the BSR project "StarDust", Mr Pleckaitis Andrius (Lithuania), representative of DEMOLA Vilnius, as well as Latvian universities and industry associations.

International Innovation Platform DEMOLA Latvia will be managed by the Latvian Information Technology Cluster.

DEMOLA Network was established in Tampere, Finland in 2008. Currently DEMOLA Network is operating in 8 regions in Finland, Lithuania, Hungary, Sweden, Slovenia and Latvia. During 2014 more than 1500 students will co-create 300 real-life innovation projects with industry professionals and university academics. According to our observations, DEMOLA is a perfect initiative to strengthen cooperation among universities and business sector.
