From October 25 to October 27, a quarterfinal of the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest among university students of the Western Region (Belarus and Baltic States) was held in Minsk. Among 53 teams that participated in the event, 5 teams were from University of Latvia and the rest of the competitors were from Belarus, Estonia, Lithuania and Kaliningrad Region of the Russian Federation.

Best two of Latvian teams qualified for semi-final in St. Petersburg. Teams were tutored by professor Guntis Arnicāns.

The tournament was conducted in line with the plan of the Association for Computing Machinery, according to which the participants were doing algorithm and program designing using high-level languages.
